- We'll be going over Shel Silverstein's "Messy Room". The kids had to write 8-line poems about their rooms, so I'm anticipating some hilarity.
- I'm introducing rhyme and poetic form.
- We'll be looking at suburbia in America. What is it? How does it exist? What are some facets of suburban lifestyle?
- Strip Malls, Dead Malls.
- Finally, an overview of Arcade Fire's "Sprawl II"
To explain the idea of form to the kids, I wrote a limerick:
I wish my dog would stop licking my feet!
His tongue is slimy, and I can’t stand its heat!
But I can’t send him away,
For he simply won’t obey,
Until I get out of my chair and give him a treat.
I am, of course, referring to Samurai Dog.
